providing extra support for kids in need in our community.

THE IDEA

Inspired by our Club Director, Eddie Carrillo, OC Surf North began this “Back 2 School Supply” program 4 years ago.

Eddie had been thinking about how rough things are for some families today that are similar to his, growing up.  Living paycheck to paycheck, the stress of losing their jobs, not understanding how the education system worked, having to support their children’s education with limited skills, and possibly having limited English skills as well.

Long story short, Eddie wanted to find a way to give back to parents and students in Orange Unified School District that might need some assistance. We believe that we are a club that has been willing to support those in need in the past, and want to continue to do so.  This may not change their lives, but it can take a small burden off their hands.  Our Back 2 School Supply Campaign would provide families in need with some basic supplies for their elementary school aged kids.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Our Surf members gather supply kit items from family, friends, and neighbors (…whoever would like to contribute!) to make the Back 2 School kits.
  2. Your player brings the kits to practice and gives them to the Team Admin or Coach.

These items can be purchased at the Dollar Tree, Target, or Walmart for as little as $1 per item!

ITEMS TO INCLUDE IN BOX

  • 1 plastic pencil box to house the supplies
  • 2 pencils (No. 2 Pencil w/ eraser)
  • 1 black or blue pen
  • 1 Yellow High Lighter
  • 1 glue stick
  • 1 box of crayons (24 pack)
  • 1 eraser
  • 1 basic pencil sharpener

OUR GOAL

Our goal this year is to deliver 600++ Supply Kits to various schools in our own community’s Orange Unified School District. To help us meet our goal, Eddie has garnered the support of the Chapman University Men’s Soccer Team. They understand the importance of giving back to the community and are very excited to join efforts with OC Surf North to help make a difference!

OTHER WAYS WE GIVE

What a great response we had from our OC Surf North family in in supporting local families in need.

One hundred and thirty five pajamas were collected from players at practice during the week of December 7 – 12 and have been donated to homeless families in the Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District.
